Girls Varsity Powerlifting · 2 District Champs and 10 girls advance to regionals

Two district champions!  That’s right, TWO!  The girls weightlifting team produced TWO district champions at the district meet last Friday.  Nicole Russi and Glorianna Echevarria took top honors in their weight classes, while Sajery Negron and Arianna Robinson took second place, and Natsumi Mercado and Aliyah Dickson took third.  Also earning top spots were Deborah Medina, Chiara Smith, Ava Semer, and Angelique Rios Rolon whose performances have qualified them for the regional meet to occur this Saturday at Hagerty High School.

This year we had a total of 23 lifters on the team, but in the top four (out of ten) weight classes, there were only three girls, and one of them sustained an injury that cut her season short. Had we had a full team, we could have sent 20 girls to districts.  Instead we had 14 girls compete, and 10 out of 14 district competitors earned spots at the regional meet!!  That’s nearly half of our total team!!

As a team, we took third place at districts although we were vying for top spot until we reached those top four weight classes.
