The Lady Knights didn’t take much of a break to start the Holidays. After a much needed few days off for Christmas, the girls got right back on the court on Thursday December 27 to face traditional Metro conference power Evans High school. The Knights fought hard but fell short in this opening game of the Florida Prospects Holiday Tournament by the score 37-49. Leading scorers were Lateisha Edwards with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Samantha Levine who stepped in after early foul trouble for Jaeda Logan and contributed 10 points off the bench.
The girls got right back at it on Friday December 28 against Osceola high school where they faced a team led by former member of the Knights coaching staff Dion Byrum. Despite Coach Byrum’s familiarity with the teams system the girls were able to execute effectively, especially on the defensive end and took a commanding 32-9 lead into halftime. This allowed some of the younger girls to get playing time in the second half that may prove to be valuable as the season progresses. The girls held on to win by the score 45-34. Top performers were Lateisha Edwards with 14 points, Christine VanMarter with 9 points and 4 assists, and Breanna Vaughn with 6 points and 9 rebounds.
The ladies finished the tournament with a tough loss to Seminole high school. The ladies dealt with early foul trouble and fell behind early. The foul situation and a tough shooting night (1-12 from 3) proved to much to overcome and the girls fell by the score 35-47. Top scorers were Lateisha Edwards and Jaeda Logan with 12 points each.
The Lady Knights will kick off the second half of their season on January 7th at home vs East River.
