Wet, raining, without Cydnie Jackson, the lady knights soccer played with heart and determination to beat Ridge Community in the Regional Semifinals 2-1 by an stellar performance by the team behind Mireya Zepeda and the midfield.

In the first 5 minutes Madison johnson goes out with a head injury and in 10 minutes so does Cayla with no trainer on site at Ridge, the players were not allowed to come back into the match without proper clearance from a trainer. The game tied at 0-0 with 6 minutes left in the first half GK Caleigh Fisher gets a blue card for denying a goal scoring opportunity for handing the ball outside the box, her being the last Nan before the goal. Kayden Page steps and takes the GK duties from there. With 2 minutes in the half Ridge scores and goes up 1-0, then half time comes.

Like the newspaper said, “ most teams usually stumble against Ridge Community when they score first. East Ridge isn’t most teams.

We adjusted our line up playing with 10 players, in the first 5 minutes, Morgan Guillemette found Mireya Zepeda on the right side, she dribbles goes to goal and scores, it’s now
1-1. Kayden page and the defense are having a great half shutting down their attack. Cayla jackson comes in after the water when was cleared by East Ridge trainer Ms. Gabby, who drove an hour to give the lady knights the boost they needed.

With 13.52 left, ball comes the back to Zepeda, who beats a defender, pulls ball back, slides the back to Alanis Melgar who takes a left footed to beat the Ridge keeper and go up 2-1. With 10 minutes Andrea Moses gets her 2nd yellow card and hast come out if the game, East Ridge is now playing with 9 players vs. their 11.

Again, and again, Kayden page, Bella Altenbaugh, Juliana McGuire, Ava Pike and Morgan Guillemette hold down the fort with outstanding efforts to hold off Ridge.

Finally, the whistle blows and the lady knights come up with the biggest win of the year, showing that it takes a team to win games.

For the first time in school history, the lady knights advance to the Regional Final against a very good Plant HS from Tampa on Tuesday Feb. 23 at 7pm at East Ridge.

It was a beautiful game to watch and witness what a team effort with heart and determination can do. The girls never backed down, and it was go hard or go home.
